Corporate Social Responsibility has many facets. We have highlighted a number of them that SHI gives special attention to.
The SHI building consists of a warehouse with an office unit, spread over three floors. The warehouse is used for the storage and transshipment of goods. Sustainability was a key focus during the construction of the building. For instance, materials from responsible sources were carefully selected, and various water-saving solutions were implemented in the sanitary installations. To efficiently and environmentally capture rainwater, a water storage facility has been established on the premises. Both the design and the outdoor area have been developed with a strong emphasis on ecological features and green spaces, contributing to a sustainable and pleasant living environment.
The building has achieved the BREEAM Very Good certification, an internationally recognized standard for sustainability performance. This certification demonstrates that our building meets strict sustainability requirements, underscoring our commitment to forward-thinking and sustainable construction.
Our approach aligns with the principles of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) entrepreneurship. We focus not only on environmental sustainability but also on creating a socially inclusive workplace and ensuring transparency and governance in our operations. We are proud that these efforts were recognized with the 2023 Social Impact Investing Award (SIIA), presented by the Institut für Corporate Governance (ICG). This prestigious award honors companies that make a positive impact on social well-being, environmental protection, and corporate culture. Our commitment to diversity, inclusion, and creating value for employees and society also played a significant role in receiving this recognition. SHI works together with the ORO foundation, which employs a group of disabled people in our organisation for light packaging work. With this collaboration, SHI wants to contribute to allowing people with disabilities to actively participate in society.

Waste is separated into different streams at SHI. To limit the flow of cardboard, transport boxes are reused. In addition, we are affiliated with Wecycle through various foundations to dispose of and recycle the end-of-life products of consumers in an environmentally responsible manner.

Our employees can deposit their empty cans and plastic bottles in the container provided for this purpose. The full containers are collected and we receive the deposit back. We then donate the proceeds to the charity KiKa, a Dutch foundation that raises money for important scientific research into childhood cancer.

Amfori BSCI is not a certification system, but a process that helps the supplier step by step to improve working conditions. The audit cycles are restarted every three years to continuously test compliance with the required standards and the effect of the implemented corrective action plan.
The products that SHI imports comply with European and National legislation such as The RoHs and the Weee, the EMC and Low Voltage Directive.
